I kept at it and eventually found Jeffery Friedl’s plugin for WordPress that allows text to be inserted directed from a file — which can be edited by emacs, of course. Need a local directory for holding those files but it would be even better to have a local emacs. And Bluehost has a full Linux installation so I just have to get ssh access and that is a simple matter of sending them a copy of a photo id, such as a driver’s license. Will set up directory and upload a text file later on while I’m waiting for ssh access. And then I can use perl or python or ruby for any programming I need to do.
